چکیده

The long-term outcome following cardiac valve replacement is primarily determined by three factors: irreversible cardiac and pulmonary pathology secondary to the valvular disease (especially left ventricular myocardial hypertrophy and degeneration, and pulmonary vascular disease), pre-existing cardiac disease, including congenital lesions and coronary arterial atherosclerotic occlusions, and prosthesis-host interactions. For most of the approximately 40,000 patients who undergo valve replacement each year in the United States, prosthesis-associated pathology is a a major determinant of prognosis. In this article, the significance, morphology, and pathogenesis of the major complications and other alterations during function of mechanical, bioprosthetic, and allograft valves are reviewed. Other reviews of pathologic considerations in cardiac valve replacement are available (l-7).

Postoperative Considerations for Aortic Stenosis

Despite increasing trends in catheter-based cardiac surgical procedures, more than 278 000 Americans had traditional cardiac surgery in 2013. Of those surgical procedures, approximately 133 000 involved valvular repair or replacement. Aortic valve replacement was by far the most common valvular operation, followed by mitral valve repair or replacement. This review article will discuss character...

Pregnancy Outcome with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection Method in a Woman with Prosthetic Heart Valves

There is an increased risk of thromboembolism, anticoagulant-related hemorrhage, fetal-wastage and congestive cardiac failure in pregnant women with mechanical heart valves. In order to have a good outcome, the care of such patients must necessarily be multidisciplinary and in a well- equipped centre with adequate support services .One such patient who had mechanical mitral and aortic valves re...

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: A Review Article

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a novel therapeutic intervention for the replacement of severely stenotic aortic valves in high-risk patients for standard surgical procedures. Since the initial PARTNER trial results, use of TAVR has been on the rise each year. New delivery methods and different valves have been developed and modified in order to promote the minimally invasive p...

Tricuspid Valve Endocarditis in an Intravenous Drug Abuser: A Case Report

Recently, there have been more reports of cardiac valve infections due to the increasing number of intravenous (IV) drug abusers and chronic renal failure patients. Among cardiac valves, tricuspid valve is most commonly affected in the course of endocarditis. Appropriate management of these patients is a challenging and controversial issue in the field of cardiac surgery. Treatment options in s...

Evolving Concepts of Cardiac Valve Dynamics

Considerable progress has been made in recent years toward elucidating a conceptual framework that integrates the dynamic functional structure, mechanical properties, and pathobiological behavior of the cardiac valves. This communication reviews the evolving paradigm of a continuum of heart valve structure, function, and pathobiology and explores its implications. Specifically, we discuss (1) t...
